Default Arlen Ness Direct Bolt-On Fairing

Anyone using one on a FXDC or any other Dyna or bike for that matter? None of the distributors have any buyer comments that I've been able to find.

My two main concerns are how is it on the highway and is it as easy to install as they all advertise it to be. But any info on it would be great.

P.S. Be gentle, I'm a newbie.

I installed one on my 99 superglide. With a lot of aftermarket stuff, there’s always a chance that you’ll need to massage (modify) it to make it fit. With the ness ź fairing for example, the brackets that mount to front shocks needed some adjustment to allow it seat properly. Also after it was installed I needed to remove (grind and blend in with a soft pad) a portion of the fairing on either side where it interfered with the Gas tank when turning. This is the issues I’ve encountered. Depending on the model and year you may have other issues or none at all.

Regarding highway riding, it’s still pretty solid afer 1 yr and 1/2. As far as the actual functionality, it removes a lot wind for the your midsection on the highway.

Hope this helps..

I have the "direct bolt on" Arlen Ness fairing on my 2009 FXDB Street Bob. I've had it for about 1.5 years now.

I got the non-painted one. My bike is Denim black, so I just rattle can-sprayed the fairing with some flat black paint....came out just fine. Sanded and cleaned it a little before hand, no issues, no peeling etc.

As for mounting. Following a few others on here ideas...I bought 2 extra detachable windshield clamps from my local dealership...then drilled out the mounting brackets just a little to fit the detach-clamps. You still must install the new head light block. But I can remove (1) allen screw unclamp and detach the Arlen Ness fairing and switch back and forth between it and my regular Tall detach windshield. Now I can choose to use either.

As for riding. My tall windshield takes the air off my chest and face. The Arlen Ness just takes it off the chest. But you still get the wind in the face. I think it's the best of both worlds. For hwy rides I use the regular windshield, for mixed, or backroad cruising I use the Arlen Ness.

Compared to a HD windshield it does move around a little...its not as thick plastic as a HD one. But far from annoying. My only issue putting it all together, was the windshield portion of the Arlen Ness fairing didn't align perfectly with the fairing portion...1 hole was slightly off. No harm...nothing a few seconds with the drill didn't fix.

I have a few pics on my profile. If you can't see it well enough, drop me a pvt message with your email address and I'll be more than happy to take some detailed pics for you, no problem at all.

Hope that helps.

I looked at the Ness Fairing, but decided on a Rifle Roadster Fairing. Had it painted my bike's color and I will do a post so on installation.

This fairing, with all hardware included weighs 3 lbs. I got the 15" screen, looks great and is a definite wind deflector. Have to be careful now or I'm zooming past the speed limit.

Post your results with installation. I'm interested. Take time to paint or polish your hardware, unless it's chrome of course.

Good Luck.
