Have had to replace the battery in my 2007 Street Bob a couple years ago. The negative cable kept loosening up on it and it basically melted the battery post. Loctited the cable on the new battery and no problems since.

Life span varies, my friend still has a stock battery on his 05 Softail, cranking strong, he takes good care, battery tender off season. My other friend replaced his 3 yo battery, leave it outside in the winter, no battery care. There you go!

06 wide glide purchased 09/05 is still going strong on original battery. I do not use a tender but I do disconnect battery when stored long periods.
Now my purchased used 08 buell Ulysses I changed the battery this year. Along with a regulator and stature.Stature toasted out end of last year.

I used a tender since day one on my 07, but one day it just died. Lucky for me it was under warranty and had no problems since. The tender is the best thing you can do, it's no guarantee, especially if the battery is damaged or defective from the factory.
