I just got the wide glide back from the shop after getting some Metzler ME880 marathon tires put on. I love the way it handles compared to the stock Dunlop tires. Plus they look so much better. What does it typically cost for two new tires, rim strips, tubes, installation and having the wheel bearings packed?? I paid $641 and I feel like I was ripped off. Maybe not but damn that was a lot of money.
Damn that's a lot. I don't know how much it cost at my dealership, but damn!! Depending on the price of the tire makes it vary. Here's what I paid last time without the bearings packing. At an indy though.
Tire $135
removal and re-install of new tire $20
Tube was $2.00 I think
Strip $1.25
Now I dismounted the wheels myself and brought them in. i'd say next time take the wheels off yourself and find a independent shop because if I remember right most dealerships have to charge you $70-$80 per hour for a min of 1 hour even if it take 10 minutes per tire to remove and re-install.
How long do Metzlers rear tires last Dyna riders??
Stock rear Michelin gone at 8500 miles on Black Madona, the street bob. Very, very nice handling tire BUT, 8500 miles??? Checked at the stealership: $165 for new Michelin, $225 for my fav Metzler, damn, thats a $60.00 spread. Gotta check around and see what the Superstore is selling them for.
If you've gone through a Metz, how long did it last?
I got my ME880s from motorcycle superstore for $220 shipped (both tires) and paid $125 for install at a local indie shop. So $345 total, but I didn't have tubes and I have sealed bearings so I didn't need the packing.
I ordered my Pirelli tires from Motorcycle Superstore, with new tubes. Right at $300 for the new rubber and another $100 for an independent shop to do the install on the bike. $400. Metzelers would have cost about the same. Not many tire options for the Wide Glide.
The Pirelli tires are a lot better than the Dunlop HD-logo tires, in every regard.
I should've boughtthe tire from motorcycle superstore because the rear was $125 and the front was $92. Instead it ended up costing $175 for rear and $124 for front. Plus $70 per tire to take off and install. The tubes cost me $22 rear and $19 front. When I called back to ask for the price of getting the wheel bearings repacked thy said $35 for both tires. I got there and they still weren't done and told me it was $35 per tire. I was so pissed off. I threw the cash at the guy and said I'd never go there again. They had my bike for six days. Two days were holidays but still!! Six days to change two tires?! Lesson learned: order online and be patient.
I too ordered my ME880s from the Superstore, love them but I did notice that their manufacture date was 2007??
We will find out the hard way if that's a problem or not I guess
Just wear them out before 2013...lol!! Or maybe 2012, I don't remember 5 or 6 years. I think it will be fine because there are people with garage queens that still ride and their tires are ancient.
my rear 880 from the superstore were from 2007 also, it only lasted 3k it looks kinda dry rotted also and i keep them clean., front 880 was man'd in 2010 it still looks brand spankin new and they were put on at the same time...
