Default 240mm rear tire

I wanted to share my experience with putting a 200mm rear tire on my 06 Wide Glide. I used DNA wheels and after getting it all spaced out and lined up I was looking at how much clearance I had left. I wished I would have gotten a 6in rear wheel and a 240 tire. I know you may think it's impossible, but the way I'm looking at it, it will fit. The only problem I SEE is the fender struts. They could be put in a jig and bent out with a port a power. I have near a 1/2 from my belt, maybe more. I did have to grind down the rear caliper where it goes around the axle. Now, when I say it will fit, a 240 tire would not be for the average guy with only hand tools. It would take precision measuring tools(calipers), machining access, etc. A different rear fender would be needed, and a new bracket for the lower shock mounts. It could be done for about the same cost as a 5.5 rear wheels and a 200mm tire. I will post pics of my 200 tire and the clearance I'm talking about. Has anyone else done this yet?

I just subscribed to this thread, because I am interested in the pics and spec's, along with what others say about the subject.

I was going to wait til I got my bike back together before posting pics, but I will go ahead and put some up. I got both wheels from DNA for $719.00 shipped. The wheels did not bolt right on, but they were not that bad to make fit. I had to change bearings and I'm using washers until I get the correct spacers, but this is the spacing I'm using. Wheel size is 21X3.5 front w/ 120/70ZR21
and rear is a 18X5.5 with a 200/50R18.

I have 3/4 between belt and tire.

This is the left side, I did have to grind off the lip on the pulley because it was hitting the swing arm.

Right side.

i just did this same mod on my 06 wide glide.

I used a 5.5" rear spoke wheel and put on a Metz 200x50-18 radial. And swapped out the front tire for a Metz 90/90.

I ended up machining down the pulley to give enough clearance. It was still a damn tight fit to get everything in. I might have a 1/4" of clearance between belt and wheel and between pulley and swingarm.

The hub on my new 5.5" x 18" wheel was 6-15/16" wide. Do you know the width of your new hub on the rear?

Looks awesome man! I think you'll like the way the radial makes it ride

LOL, It's a 30 dollar Ebay fender from a Super Glide. It had 2 huge dents in it. I cut one dent off and beat the other one out. The paint is off. I used spray cans and wet sanded and buffed it out. Paint looks like crap but it will have to do until I paint the bike.
BTW, I also cut about a 2" strip off the sides of the fender.
Also I wanted to mention, Harley wants $180.00 for a quart of paint, and that does not include catalyst or thinner, etc..

Here is a pic of the front. I'm going to make a thread about everything I have done to the bike after I get it cleaned up and still waiting on the seat.
No more skinny tires.
The next person that drops something off their truck and causes me to wreck my new wheels, I'm going to hunt them down like a wide animal.
