I could use some help with diagnosing the problem.
This is a 94' EVO motor. Here's the chronologic list:
First the tach started getting wonky and wouldn't read accurate over about 2500 rpm, and over 300 rpm its bouncing top to bottom. Rode like this for about a day.
Then the motor would experience hesitation at around 2800-3000 rpm. As rpm built gradually the hesitation was WAY more noticeable. If you whacked the gas wide open you could blast thru it without much to notice.
Then the hesitation got worse and caused the bike to kill, repeatedly. If I let the bike sit for a while (30 min or so) I could restart and continue the ride. Until it killed again.
Someone mentioned that it sounded electrical? I have no clue. I'm open to suggestions.
Not sure what the deal with the tach is but if it were me I would change the spark plugs (cheap test/trial) If its hesitating and has a fiar amount of miles on it plugs could be the issue. Just one thought and a cheap and easy thing to try. Honestly could be a million things but plugs is a good place to start and possibly wires if its got ALOT of miles.
One other thing to try is adding some seafoam in the tank for a few tanks maybe your carb is a bit on the dirty side as well. These are just a few things to try that are relatively cheap to do and very easy to do yourself. Good Luck hope it works for ya.
"I had a similar problem one time on an FXR, turned out to be a bad battery, tach would act crazy, engine sputter.."
On my old FXR it was the hot lead coming off the ign-key switch; wire insulation had rubbed away and bare wire was shorting out against the rocker cover...
