On my 04 FXDXI the feed comes from the inside connection on both sides of the tail light, corresponding to the left and right turn-signal.

The main lighting harness plugs in to the back of the tail light and then there should have been disconnects that go to each blinker that also plug in to the back of the tail light. Each signal has its own two wires with a plug at the end of each pair that go in to that box on the back of the tail light

That is exactly what I did. To simplify things I continued to use the circuit board. That way I did not have to splice or make any new connectors. I just mounted it to the underside of the fender on the laydown license plate hardware. I then built a make-shift shield out of some sheet metal to protect the electrical components. The circuit board and connections are all shrink wrapped in battery pack shrink wrap that you can purchase at hobby shops. I also used the run/turn/brake module from HD.

I thought from day one that was stupid! you put a 180 or 200 on there it rubs and ruins the wiring... i ripped all mine out, run it htough the inner fender rails wrapped up in some shrink wrap.. so much cleaner and well out of the way. i also redid the harness so that it comes righ off there (did this so i could run multiple running/brake lights
(sorry lots of pics but pics tend to help more) let me knwo fi you have questions... (you can get large shrink wrap from HF for cheap!)

redoing the harness

now i have the tail and runners/brake on the swing arm

also tapped a LED into the main board on the tail light so that i could have multi turn sigs for when the bags with fills are on
