Default Oil Coolers

I was wondering what you all thought about oil coolers. Do they work? Are they worth the money. I am talking about the Harley one in particular. I'd be open to others if they were worth it.

The issue to remember with oil coolers is that they only really work when the bike is moving and air is flowing thru the coils. When in traffic, the benefit is minimal, unless you have some kind of fan.

Well I have a 2010 wide glide and recently put a 103" Stage 4 on it. I am thinking that it might help for when I am taking it longer rides.

On a 103 it should be a must do. I put one on a few years back and have never had a problem with heat.

That's a valid concern, but there is still some benefit to getting the oil out of the motor and passing through the cooler. It gives it that much more surface area to shed some heat.

Coolers definitely work better when the bike is moving and air is being forced through the cooler; however, coolers do work by convection in traffic or when stopped. Addtiionally, once in traffic or stopped, the oil is already cooler than it would be without an oil cooler.

A fan makes a measurable difference. The new Jagg fan unit is about the slickest and easiest fan operated unit to install available.

Bang for the buck, ease of installation go with the XIED install, I believe it beats most oil coolers. My bike runs a great deal cooler and seems to run better!

I think with a 103 kit and stage four, he is way beyond anything XEID's will do for him. I'm a big fan of the Xied's but just for a basic stage one or stock.
