Hey guys and gals, first time poster in the dyna section. How y'all doin?
I picked up a 2000 fxdl a few months ago and my back is telling me its time to do something about the suspension. It still has the stock shocks on it and they've gotta go. I have a Sporty that I put Progressive springs in the front and 412's on the back and it really smoothed out the ride. Will the same setup work well on my Dyna, or is there a more preferred way to go among you guys?
I had a set of the 412's...switched to a set of Works Performance Black Trackers. The Works win in the looks department by far, but to be honest I just don't feel that much ride difference
I put progressive suspension 418's on a 2007 fxdl. Totally transformed the bike for the better. I only weigh 160lbs and with the stock Harley shocks I was bouncing all over the place. Every time I hit a bump or seam in the pavement while in a turn the rear would jump sideways a bit. With the 418s the ride was much smoother and more controlled. It was like riding a new bike and much easier on my back. They are adjustable for preload and damping. Pricey but worth it in my opinion. I just got a new fat bob a week ago and have already ordered 418's to put on it.
It totally depends on what you want out of the motorcycle. If you just want a good replacement shock, install a set of 412s. If you want a high end performance shock, get some custom made Works or Ohlins. If you want a super plush and smooth ride, install a set of Progressive 440's. You have to decide what the intended purpose is first, them the budget. In my sig pic I am running my 13 inch 440's. Smooth as freaking silk, one OR two up.
edit: as posted above... I have never had 418's, but the reviews are always like slimdudes. Very positive.
