there is no need to remove the bolt that holds the strap on to remove the seat remove the rear fender bolt grab the seat and pull it to the rear until the front of the seat is removed from the gas tank latch then the seat will slide out of the strap I alwaws cover my rear fender and tank with a towel so i dont slip and get a scratch
When I installed my pillion, I just through bolted it to the bracket holding the seat and pillion together. That way the strap is still there and bolted solidly and it comes off with the seat when I remove it.
Before I took mine off I asked the wife and kids if they ever used it. None ever did, said it was too hard of a place to hold onto, so off it came.
Seat looks much better without it.
As previously stated by gto frank the strap need not be removed. Remove the rear screw, draw the seat back untill released from the tank and turn the seat 90 degrees, presto!!!!!
