When I first got the bike, I had to lift the seat and reach in there to take off the seat nut.......not fun! There was no way I could have slipped the seat out without taking of the nut first. The reason was because the strap was new and tight. Now that it's been used, I can slip the seat out, leaving just the strap & nut.
It's really easy to put back on using the reverse order. First I put the strap on and tighten the nut. Then I just slip my seat through the strap. I also used HD leather dressing on the seat and strap which probably helps with the friction factor.
I changed a solo seat so I have removed the stock 2up seat bumpers from the fender. I have bought a more comfy pillion that bolts up to the solo and glued the bumpers to it. When I install the Screamin' Eagle Wife Package (ala the new passenger pillion, sissy bar, saddlebags, etc) I use the strap to make sure the pillion is snug tight to the fender and doesn't shift or rub to minimize scratching. I noticed even on the stock 2up seat without the strap, the seat is a little wobbly in the middle unless you are sitting on it. Not a big deal if the bumpers are on the fender. The strap doesn't complicate changing from solo to 2up much.
I found a great use for mine. I drove a finish nail into my shelving, then put one end over the nail. I then looped the tag end around a set of jumper cables and back over the nail. In all my years of riding, I believe that is the first time I ever utilized a seat strap.
Took mine off and replaced it with the chrome hand bracket that used to come as OE thru '05 onthe UC. Contrary to what the catalog says the chrome bracket does fit on '07 UC with UC tour pack speakers....but only if you leave the tour pak in the back position.
