i think the sound is exernal maybe from under the tank .. its higher up on the engine and is pretty clear i will be bringing it to the dealer and see what they say about it
Well Good luck to you, sir. I had none. I am curious to hear what they say. So keep us posted. I tend to think it's a loose something or other as well. though i think I ruled out the tank as it still sounds when I squeeze the tank whith my legs. I know that jiffy stand sure as hell makes a rackett and you see that if you just go play with it for a while. sends a similar noise up through the frame and almost sounds as if it's top engine or maybe valve train. Well let us know I'd like to fix it. Right noe it's my only complaint.
Mine made the same noise. It stopped when i drained the SYN3 from the tranny and put regular transmission oil in it. So much for SYN3 in all 3 holes. I have an 06 FXDBI.

Syn3 sucks!!! Had it put in at 1K, took it out at 2500 miles......... Probably after it did its damage.
I, my friend, do not lug whatsoever. lol but you may have a point. it does "sound like" a lugging type sound so it may be the chain adjustment is off. It'll be to harley for a checkup.
Went to Harley and inquired. Low and behold I actually got an answer that made f-ing sense!!! wow!! Here it is. I fyour hearing what we're all hearing it is more than likley the primary drive chain slap. Due to the new style tensioner(automatic) it takes a bit as you roll on the throttle for the chain to tension. Therefor you get a bit of chain slap and then it goes away. This really makes sense because it seems as though we all started hearing this around 1000 miles or so just after the bike broke in and the chain loosened up a bit.
Bingo we have a winner! My engine had loud upper end clatter until I rid it of the Hugo Chavez juice.......Mobil1Vtwin makes no noise.
