Default Rattling from primary

I have a 14 street glide with 27,000 miles. The other day while pushing it into the garage,I noticed a strange noise from the primary. Almost like a rattle coming from the front pulley. Took it to an Indy. He tore it apart thinking the bearings for sixth gear were bad. Also said main shaft bearing looked fine. Couldn't find anything and put it back together. Noise still there. Yesterday I took it to a dealership. They thought the belt was too tight. So I loosened it to specs. Noise still there. Anyone else notice something like this? Getting ready for a 3,000 mile trip and about ready to say screw it and ride it as is

What is the bike idling rpm? Make sure the EITMS is Disabled. Now listen to it.

For anyone who might be searching this in the future. Turned out it was a bad main shaft bearing. And before anyone tries to analyze what I did wrong, fluids were always changed before specified intervals. Redline fluids in transmission and primary last 2 yrs.

toecat2000, what type of primary chain adjuster does your ride have? Is it an automatic? The reason for the question is I also had to do a tranny rebuild, mainshaft bearing plus some needle bearing went bad do to my stock automatic primary chain adjuster keep my chain to tight. Add that to a crank runout that is .018. Just hammered everything. '09 ultra with only 20k on it. made the switch to a Baker Armored Attitude manual adjuster so I will not had do do this rebuild again.

Jammer: one day I was pushing into the garage with bike off and in neutral and heard an odd kind of grinding noise. Also started to whine above 15 mph.

Rickity: it's the factory automatic tensioner. Mechanic had no idea why it happened. Maybe I should have went with the baker

Not an ad for Baker, But I feel it is well worth the $200. it gives you some play on the primary side to make up for things being out of round. I pulled the tranny out and had the HD shop install a Jim's rebuild kit. They only charged me 2 hrs of labor, got it back the next day. Alot cheaper than taking the bike in for them to do. Did the inner/outer primary bearings myself while at it. From what I've read HD has a history of lack of QC as far as pressing the cranks together. That info was from Mark@Baker Drivtain, here in the forum. When I checked my clutch basket for trueness it was nice and round, so mine was all the crank and adjuster. Not saying this is your problem but it is something to check on. Best of luck

I've been reading a lot about compensator failure, can someone explain why a compensator would fail? I have some noise in mine and wondering if its the compensator.
