So having some issues with my bikes eletrical lately after going thru a peg deep puddle and decided to pull out all the plugs and get the dielectric grease out and do some routine maintenance while I'm at it. Went to change the oil and usually when I pull the oil filter it's full and makes a mess. I pulled it tonight and maybe had two ounces total in the damn thing if that. Something isn't right. I'm busting out the service manual tonight to do homework but posting as well to either help guide or point out something I missed.
Recent history: bike went thru puddle, start idling irratic. Shut it down immediately and would not restart. Dried connections out to/from pc3 and others and ran ok for a hard test run. 2 days later went to ride an got 2 blocks and it started making whirring metallic mechanical noises and running rough. Shut down and restarted to get engine light and batery light. Idles fine at stand still but does same as before as soon as it hits the road. All of which has lead up until the beginning of my post.
I haven't gotten into the book yet and off the top of my head I haven't thought of what could be a cause related to my recent water incident.... One big F'ing puddle is causing a chain reaction of bullshit.
Eliminate the oil worries: Put a pan under the filter area, remove the filter and crank the motor. When it pumps oil all down the front of the motor, replace filter.
I bought an oil filter from a indy one time time and every time I started the bike up the lifters rattled like crazy. Turned out that filter either didn't have an anti drain back seal, or it wasn't working. The rattling was caused by the lack of oil pressure while the filter was filling up. Once I put a better filter on the rattle stopped.
Yea that was my first thought but that would make two faulty oil filters with the last 2 months. First one came apart at the seams literally and shot oil down the road( drag specialty filter) and now this one looks brand new inside after 2500 miles with a tiny bit of oil inside. Weird ****
Sounds like the anti drain back valve. If I were you, for the price just use the factory stuff or a k&n filter. Some of those aftermarket filters are pretty low quality.
