My Bike is spitting oil out the air cleaner just enough to leak and run down side is this going to happen every time I change oil it sure seems so when hot it is just over the hot mark !
From: west central michigan 2 miles from the big pond
I have a 84 lowerider it did the same thing.I removed the breather line from the aircleaner and blocked the hole .I pulled the line down and put an aze valve in the line.A aze valve is a oneway valve that lets air out but wount suck dirt in.Its in JP catalog.
Regarding your PM Jessie,
look behind your air cleaner cover, you'll see 2 short black hoses, one in front, one in back, each about 2.25" to 2.5" long, slightly "S" shaped.
Those will, over time, crack as they age, and slightly tear where they mount on the nipple fitting on each end. This itself can cause dripping...so look there.
I took one off, and headed down to the local NAPA store, handed it to the guy behind the counter. He came back with a roll of similar diameter transparent neon-yellow rubber hose, and cut off about a foot for me. Cost me about 2 bucks. I cut off two 3" pieces, and put them back on. They look more like one longer curve on each side, sorta like the handle of your coffee mug I guess? Instead of that slight "S" shape the shorter stock ones had. He told me it was made of a good heat resistant rubber that won't crack and tear as quickly on me like the originals did. Plus that neon-yellow colored hose kinds added a unique look to the air cleaner area.
The whole purpose of those hoses, is for the crankcase breathing....to allow extra oil to burp out during high pressure...and get burned clean by being forced through the engine. Instead of being dripped out onto the atmosphere and highway and polluting. Many years ago, oil fill caps simply allowed breathing through them.
But if you're filling your engine with oil and it gets just past the "full" line....hold back a bit. Note that there is a difference in reading the dipstick when hot..and when cold. Also follow your manual for how many quarts to put in (my Dyna is 2.5 qts), and to read your dipstick while the bike is resting on the jiffy stand....not verticle in a wheel chock.
