If I were to do this with a twin cam you could buy a wide glide and shoehorn a twin cam b motor in there. First you would have to find a B motor. I bet it would be a PITA to do . Someone could probably figure out how since I have seen some genius level mods on harleys.
I do have to ask . If you want a solid mounted twin cam motor the new softail blackline is available. Looks remarkably like a WG with a twin cam B motor... hmmmmm. Looks like harley did make a WG (very similar) with a B twin cam in it.
I do know someone who had a softail with a B motor in it. He took off the counterbalancer unit (don't know how but he disabled it)so he could rev the motor past 6200 safely. His bike is the fastest bike I have ever seen . However he is not of this world . The extra vibes dont seem to bother him at all. LOL. Proud to have him as my mechanic.
Ok this is her husband now... Harley wants way to much for these motor mounts... and youll never get rid of the wobble at high speeds pinned through a corner.... So I thought hummm I'll weld them up rigid and not worried bout vibration at all.( i also have a rigid Ironhead i built from ground up) I no they make adapters to fit a TC A motor into a evo rigid frame... So that would be rigid mounted right?? I come from a 20 year motocross career and expert sport bike and supermoto background...So i do ride HARD..... Just basically wanted to know how much vibration it would really have if i did this...So I did the front mount and its ok vibration wise idle is the worst 5th gear 80 thru the corners smooth as butter... so i think ill yank rear also and do it to...Stupid idea HD had bolt a swingarm to a motor then rubber mounting it all to a frame...no way in hell to loose all flex in the center that way..IMO rigid mount would rail in the corners and never have any mid bike flex...

all u do is split the cases and yank balancers and the chain and 3 guides... I've also been a tech for over 20 years...HD's r just knew to me!

Ah, I see what your getting at. First.... yes. There is no reason you could not make or have made solid motor mounts. If you had your front and rear mounts in your hands you could simply weld up steel plates into solid motor mounts. Would you be happy, probably not but you could do it. Racers (car racers) have been doing it for decades. My supercharged 5.0 trashed more than one set of motor mounts and solids was always an option. I just never went that route. Second, both Sputhe and True Track make stabilizers for Dyna's that solve the wobble issue associated with rubber mounted swing arms. I have a True track, and providing everything else on the bike like swingarm and neck bearings, tire balance, tight spokes ect.... are up to par, will solve the wobble issue a lot better than solid mounts. Just sayin'...
Im gonna get me a true track. I have seen ads for both rigid frames with adapters for mounting a twin cam A motor and also a couple of rigid frames for twin cam B motors. If you want a rigid framed bike you can find one that will hold a twin cam motor.
Good luck to the OP (tclark)at the husband: it does sound like you have some experience with motors etc. you should be able to come up with something to your satisfaction. I would be interested to hear what you finally decide to do.
