It's a 39mm narrow glide front, but not the same as a sporty per-se. The FXDX and FXDXT after 2000 has fully adjustable front forks. I like it but it is my first bike, so I don't have anything else to compare it to.

the overall size is basically the same as a sporty since they are both 39mm narrowglides. The DX and the DXT both have double adjustability for compression and rebound. The T models are out and out worth a little more than the regular DX due to the harder than hell to find bags and fairing. Rest of the bike is standard issue except the trees and rear fender. Please don't ape hanger, forward control, willie g skull or neon light it. Make it go fast, stop fast, and turn fast.

I own a '01 FXDXT, the best bike ever.
I changed the cam tensioners at 81,000 miles. They looked good and could have gone further, but this is something that needs to be checked; if a dealer is selling the bike make an inspection of this item part of the sale. Easy to do, and only requires a flashlight and gasket.

You can still get the bags and fairing/components from HD.

One thing you MUST check is where the ignition pick-up is. If it is on the cam shaft then that is a one of a kind and you won't have any cam choices in the future except for stock. The pick-up should be off the fly wheel and is located under the left side of the oil filter.

I now have 115,000 on my bike and the only components I have changed are the tensioners at 81,000 and the drive belt at 114,000.

Best to change to gear drive cams and never worry about it again if shaft runout .003 or less. The FXDX forks/shocks can be adjusted to either ride better than a bagger or go twisty road riding. Add a fork brace and you are good to go. They just soak up big bumps like they arent there.

And it sold yesterday, damn it. Thanks for the info, if another one comes up I will be ready to move on it. Seems like every Harley around here is priced over NADA by a good margin. Probably why that one moved quick.

Yeah see, good example of what I am talking about. NADA on that year is $7,743 and the dude wants $11,000.

http://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycle...dard-Equipment

The one around me was priced at $7,490, just didn't see it soon enough. I mean maybe I'm nuts, but rather than give $11,000 for an 01, I would just go give $ 12,999 for a '12 Super Glide at the local dealer.

Thanks for the link though, I would actual travel a bit to ****** a deal. I am in KY. I have two bikes though, and can be patient.

Take your time, since you're not in a hurry one will show up at a decent price. When I bought this one new in 04 the FXDX was among Harley's WORST selling models . I regretted selling it 3 years ago.
As luck would have it the new owner called and asked if I'd buy it back. It included the stuff I'd put on it, Boss bags, shield, running lights, Corbin Solo seat, fender rack, HD mufflers and SE airbox, shop manual, etc. In the three years he owned it he just put 2,000 miles on (it has 20K now). The great thing is he had the dealer install the upgraded tensioner kit. While they were in there they advised they should just go ahead and put a cam in, so he let them do that too. Something like $1,700 all told.
As far as price he told me $500 under book. I called the dealer and they told me the value was $6,100-6,200. When I told the seller that he said OK then it's $5,600. I told him I couldn't pay any less than $5,800 so we agreed on that. Only thing is he still can't find the service manual.
So as far as what dealers are quoting for used FXDX's I'd think you should be able to locate one from a dealer in the $6,500 range.
