Thanks for your help, Happy Holiday.
I am a Sportster owner that has run across a 2009 FXD Superglide, stock, 1700 miles. Vivid black, grey aluminum cases. Spoke wheels. Windshield is the only add on.
Asking price down to $9800.00, started at $10,900. Seems good by NADA and KBB, but want to check with owners, their thoughts on the price and what must be done immediately if I purchase. I think minimum would be 1000 mile check. I have heard it's about $350.00. Anything else I should be thinking of?
Any preferences on internet VIN search companies?
NADA Value Average $9260
NADA Value Low $8310
NADA Value High $10470
KBB Trade in $8540.00
KBB Retail "excellent" $11,625.00
Is this a private party add? Does the PO have all service records?
By your figures, I wouldn't pay over 9k for the bike if it was top notch, a dealer wouldn't pay over 8k. If the PO can't verify in writing that the 1k service has been done, I wouldn't buy it.
Are you financing it? If you are, with HD financing you will get a lower payment on a brand new one. Brand new is only about 3k more with a 2 year warranty. Plus you will have the black engine casings.
If you do buy it besides all the fluids and critical fasteners being checked, you also have to tighten the spokes if you have lace wheels on it and also the steering head bearings need to be adjusted.
But I LOVE my 09 Super Glide. It has carried me for 18,000 happy miles without a complaint. It has hauled kids, girlfriends, groceries, and gear for trips to the beach and mountains and everywhere else. It has definitely made my life better.
Thanks for the replies rooti and smoke, raining here this pm, no beer run, I mean ice cream.
Has anyone ever read what the grace period for scheduled maintenance is? Wondering if HD could void the warranty, what is left of it, if the 1000 mile maint. was performed at 1600 miles and nothing was found wrong??
Hummm, I am sure they would think of something.

I Appreciate your time,
John
If you fell in love with the bike then 9800 isn't a bad price but it's not a great price either. 1700 miles is practically new so if you like the bike then jump on it.
I have a 2009 FXD with 22K+ miles on it in 21 months. I moved from a 1200 sportster and have not regretted it. $9.8K sounds a little high price wise, but the bike has such low miles it should be worth it. Verify the 1000 mile service or have it done yourself. Then ride the tar out of it and don't look back!
Try looking into holdovers at the dealership. I seen a superglide here in salina ks for 13,400 when I was shopping for my bike. When the new ones come in they try to get rid of the old ones kinda reasonably. I paid 10 for my 08 street bob, but I didnt want a newer than 08 model cause of the new fender and ***** looking taillight they put on em. Plus it came with pipes, forward controls, 18 month warranty, and only had 8000 miles on it. Love this bike and I feel like I got a good deal, which is all that matters. If I was looking at a stock superglide I would definitely look into going new though. Either way its an awesome bike, good luck man.
A bike is only worth what someone will pay for it. If they need to sell it then they will go lower. That said then I will tell you that I have never regretted trading my 2007 1200 sportster custom in on a new 2009 fxdc.
