Hating it??? I don't get it, why people have to make judgement on other bikes is beyond me. I think it's a good bike, a kid brother to the RKs. Like FB says, it is what it is. If you want a cruiser this one is pretty cool and has the versatility to do an occasional tour. I like the mods you made already.
I am very impressed with the Switchback. I have a 03 lowrider and was looking to move up to a roadking but I saw the Switchback, it was so much lighter than the RK. plus my boyfriend has a road king and don't want to be matching LOL I cruise a lot and do a few road trips so it fits me well. Can't wait till he's broken in good
like some of the mods , you got there , i'm not a fan of apes, love my switchback though , a lighter, tighter, 103 cubed, hot rod with a place to put my sandwhich!
Richard, thanks for providing the before and after pic. You are quite clever in your cut and pasting. Do you think you could combine a pic of Queen Elizabeth with a viking-type horned helmet on, sitting on a SB?
That would be hilarious.
thank you also to those who have commented on my mods...much appreciated.
That is a nice look. What size are the handlebars? Did you needed longer cables? What kind of kit did you use for the front turn signals?
Frigol,
The bars are 12.5" chubby and used my stock riser that I modified with a little grinding on the underside, the kit for the turn signals were over the counter from HD, yes on the cables...I changed them out to stainless steel and they are longer than stock. Cables were about $300, bars $200, turn signals, I think were about $30 or so. I also changed the grips (about $130) and added some chrome switches (about $30) for the chrome sliders, I had mine triple-plated chromed ($300) making sure they coppered them first but should have just got them from HD for $350 as it took the chrome shop two weeks to deliver. I also added some kuryakin switchblade highway pegs that are mounted under my floorboards for $160, but I'm not real happy with those as the reach is wrong and they don't adjust.
I test rode one, identical you yours, yesterday at Dudley Perkins in South SF. I liked it. Ergos were perfect for me (5'10", 32" inseam), transmission shifted like a GSXR (which means damn good), solid chassis behavior at high speeds, great throttle response from the 103, and being ~90lbs less than my 2010 Road King was appreciated. Only two complaints: noticeably high vibration in all areas, seat, floorboards, bars (bike had 36 miles and other test riders commented on the vibration), and just adequate brakes. Still, a great ride. Of all the bikes offered at the Labor Day open house this model drew the most interest.
Breaking this thing in, I too noticed lots of vibration. To the point where I called HD and our resident HD guru at work.
They both told me it would go away... just keep riding it.
It started going away @ about 75-100 mikes. Thereafter, it seemed to get better and better. Last trip was about 150 miles and the vibrations are pretty much gone.
