Been reading through the forums on painting exhaust heat shields...tyring to come up with an all-in-one, best approach.
For those that know, there are a variety of paints out there good at a variety of temps...so, which paint is the best that also produces the best results? 500 degree? 1200 degree?
Thanks!
PS. I've got a 2012 DWG, and for "us" with the new 103 CI motors, it's a pain waiting for the big aftermarket companies to come up with their exhausts...I hear it's an "O2 sensor issues, mainly the bung connection"
Regarding the o2 sensor bungs, it's really not much of an issue as you can buy aftermarket pipes and have the correct bungs welded in place of the others. Any muffler shop should be able to handle the job in minutes.
My dealership (Cajun Harley Davidson) makes machined adapters to fit the new O2 sensors in the pre 2012 pipes. The service manager told me they are thinking about selling them. For exhaust paint I have had really good luck with Krylon BBQ paint.
i wouldnt recommend standard powdercoat, i did mine and in certain spots it will bubble, exhaust gets really hot, like 1200 degrees in some spots. i did have them recoated using high temp powder coat and they work fine. if i could go back, id just rattle can them high temp spray paint.
