Tyres
I'm wondering how many of you that are getting good mileage out of the stocker, downshift? I know we were told at the MSF course that if you downshift it will wear the life of the rear tire by like 50-60%, correct me if I'm wrong on that #. Tim

3 things I do that probably contribute to poor mileage out of my back tire:
1) I downshift vs braking, most all the time.
2) I don't shift hard, but do "push" the bike hard between shifts.
3) I "roll" on the throttle quite a bit.
I don't know that I will ever change these habits very much, because it is what makes riding fun vs. just enjoyable, but at least I have gained some insite into what may very well be cutting my rear tire life by 1/2.
I gotta feeling I won't get much over 8K miles outa the ME880, either.

I have an 05 Dyna Wide Glide. I ride "Normal" I would say. Burn out?? I doubt my DWG has the ***** to do a burn out, lol.
The first year I put 10,098 miles on the bike and the tires looked like they could of gone another 3 or 4k but I had em changed in the early spring just so I wouldn't have to mess with "that" during my riding time (summer).
This past summer I put on 10,600 and again both tires look like they could easily go another 3 or 4k. I will have new ones installed during the spring check-up just so I don't have to mess with it during the summer (riding months).
I just use the stock tire that came with the bike when I bought it.
I asked the salesman prior to buying the DWG as to how many miles I can expect on tires. He told me 7 to 8k. He must "peel-out" and "slam" on the brakes to use up tires. I remember my non-harley street bikes getting 20k before changing. Yeah I know, those tires were hard as rocks, lol.
Maybe the types of roads some of you who only get 5k, 6k, 7k miles out of tires, has something to do with it. Mostly I ride asphalt.
Another factor may be temperature. If you live in Phoenix (as an example), I would imagine your tires would "melt" off faster then cooler (northern) climates.

Kind of difficult to argue when your odometer says 10,500 miles since the last tire change and there is still plenty of tread left.

Not sure if it's correct or not but the guy at IronPony told me that Dunlop is on strike and he wasn't sure when they would be getting any new Dunlops in. He told me I got the last rear P205. Tim
