The good thing about using the upgraded springs is that they are maintainable and also the rear Works Streetracker nitrogen shocks are also maintainable with the ability to be rebuilt fairly cheap compared to buying new.
Any experience with Progressive Suspension springs? I got a set but haven't put them in yet as Ricor was saying people were getting good results with the stock ones.

I believe our Ricor Intiminators were valved for stock type springs. Using progressively wound springs would negate the engineered valving that they were designed to dampen, giving you too little compression/rebound resistance or too much, depending on the spring's compressive length.

I would talk to Sputhe before trying a progressively wound spring. They might recommend a lighter or heavier straight wound spring or a different weight oil. They know their products well.

When I purchasd my Ricor Intiminators I was in contact with them and he asked what bike what springs and my weight and baggage combined and they adjusted accoridingly.
I am very happy with my setup, it is a sport suspension handles anything I can throw at it without ever bottoming out and I have ridden some bad flooded deep holes roads.
Handles like it's on a track in high windy conditions. including passing trucks on the highway. Night and day compared to stock.
For the average rider you probibly don't need the progressives but I like doing a job once.

For me and the triple rated springs the first leg is at 30 same as stock and most of the normal riding is there, however as the road suddenly changes sometimes without warning there are the extra 40 and 60 waiting to handle what lies ahead,

But i would say most shocks are going to be better than stock, save for the cheap progressives, i hear they are not much better than the stock. But thats all hear say on the progressive 412's. But im sure the top of the line progressives are as good as works, ohlins, ricors.
+1 Same results here with a very similar set-up from Works Performance.

This post comes at the very time I'm needing info like this. Been wanting to upgrade the stock suspension on my '03 FXDL. I'm looking at the Ricor fronts and rear shocks for a good package. I'll use the stock springs for now, but may upgrade them if need be. I've looked at the website and it asks for rider weight+gear. I know my weight of course, but after that I'm a bit cunfussed. I can't see 'gear' ever being much at all, but suppose I have a hot-chick some day...unlikely but I do keep hope alive....add/guess for that weight too? Any other suggestions appreciated. Thanks

Just have them set up for your riding weight. If you add more weight in the from of a passenger or luggage you can just give the shocks a few more twists of preload.

I don't bother doing this when riding 2-up with my 110 pound passenger and don't have a problem, but I do ride a bit easier then.

Ohlins shocks and drop-in cartridges gave me a very versatile package. Solo sport riding in the twisties. Two up with a Tour pack and fully loaded to the GVW of the Streetbob for a long trip to Nova Scotia from Chicago. The versatility of being able to dial in the ride you want is worth the cost of Ohlins shocks/fork cartridges in my opinion. Jay

Just have them set up for your riding weight

ok, thanks. Looked at Works shocks earlier. A little less pricey than the Ricors......coin-flip between the Works & Ricor shocks?? Thanks

Has anyone used the Race Tech emulators? They appear to be similar to the Ricor Intiminators. I used them in my race bike years ago, and they worked well.
