Default Fuel Valve Diaphram

Does anyone have an idea on how much the diaphram in the fuel valve costs to replace. Just a ball park figure is all I need. Its for a 98 Lowrider. Any close guess would be a big help. Currently having some trouble with my truck and I sure don't need my bike going down right know. Thanks!

A complete valve goes for about $88.00, if my memory serves me well I think the diaphragm goes for about $15.00 or so. Labor cost is going to depend on where you have the work done, they usually charge about an hour.

Default Expensive

Thanks, SteveO, we share a good name. Boy its an expensive little bugger for such a small piece. I'll be putting it on myself so no worries on a labor charge. I was really hoping it would be 5 or 6 bucks. I took mine apart and tried a little backyard repair on it but won't know if it worked for about another hour when I ride it to the tag office to get my tags.

Swap it out for a standard non vacuum petcock. Less junk to go bad.

Actually, I found out from my local Harley dealer that they no longer list just the diaphram but the sell a fuel valve overhaul kit which is everything but the valve body for the small sum of $88 plus tax. Parts guy told me about the non vaccum one for $35 but he wouldn't reccommend it. So what I did was take mine apart (I know most won't agree) and put a tiny bit of black RTV sealer around the small tear in the middle, put it back together and so far it doesn't leak. May not last long but maybe long enough for me to save the money for either the non vaccum cheapy or the high dollar kit. I know the things we do when we're broke.

That leaks on your spark plugs wires or plugs and you will look like the real Ghostrider. You better fix it right..
J&P sells a standard Non Vacuum type which I will be installing on my bike. They are about $20 bux. If your float valve in your carb is working properly there is no reason you cant run a standard Non Vacuum petcock on your ride. Its an extra fail safe is all. When you run a manual petcock just turn your fuel off at night and in transport and you are all good.

I will do that just as soon as I can scrap up the extra $20. Its not that I don't want to be safe but I just don't have the money at the moment which is why hopefully it will hold a couple of weeks. Besides Ghostrider ain't got nothin on me since I have already been on fire (hit a 8" 800 psi LNG line with a front end loader back in the early 80"s) once and its something I don't take lightly.

Do you have any Fuel Systems repair facilities around where you live? If so just stop by their shop and see if they have any scrap pieces of thin sheet rubber they use for rebuilding carbs and fuel pumps. They might just hook you up with something. Just a thought.

And a good thought it is. I might actually have some out in the garage. If not then I'll ask some friends if they have any old carb kits lying around.
