Default Is there a bad year for a twin cam engine

I have an 09 FXDC.I am thinking about buying a used Streetglide. I thought I read that the 06 had some problems that Harley fixed later any input?

All TC88 have cam chain tensioners and inner bearings problem, the tensioner springs are too strong, putting a lot of pressure on the chain guides, they wear out so fast that you wouldn't believe. The only fix is hydraulic tension cam plate upgrade, that will save you a lot of trouble, the torrington b-148 bearings replaced the stock ones. Nothing bad about a TC88, they are as good as 96 if you have a new auto chain tensioner system installed. I used to have a 06 Fatboy, don't ask me how I know.

Not the only fix, if your crank runout is in spec you can go gear drive. The crankshafts on the 99-02 were more sturdy than the later bikes so more likely to check out for gear drive. I'm doing a 97ci build this winter, going gear drive if all checks out, otherwise I will do the SE hydraulic kit

Yeah that too, gear drive is good but I can't stand for the whining sound lol. Don't forget the new cam plate unit has a better oil pump, you basically upgrade the lubrication system at the same time. And yes the crank material is better prior to 02 model, I don't understand why HD wants to cut cost and build a cheaper crankshaft, it doesn't make sense to me.

Hmm...did not know of this concern for my '03-88. Symptoms to watch for? Mileage range? Is the SE kit the only/best option as far as manufacturer?

Mileage vary, some went at 30000miles or earlier. Andrews make a cam plate as well do a search.

Some of the 06 Dynas had stator problems and inner primary alignment issues, have not heard of any on the Touring bikes.

I still need a big bore kit. I like the gear drive whine. I used to run Pete Jackson "Noisy" timing gears in my small block Chevys. I think the tolerances on those years you mentioned were better, and the cranks were forged rather than cast units as well.

The early 06's had injector issues. See if you can determine if the injectors are the updated 25 degree.

it being a 06 STREET GLIDE and a touring configuration, a 5 speed, they only things i know they had were cam chain tensioners, the 8* injectors, and adding the auto adjusting primary chain would be a plus..
