so i just got my 2012 street bob and trying to figure out my options with fuel management...on my sporty i jus threw on a pair of XIED's n went from there.

I wouldnt mind going back 2 xied's but would u guys think a V&H fuelpak is better???

Current set up on the bike:
V&H competition pipe
Screamin Eagle Heavy breather

any help would be greatly appreciated

"Better" is pretty subjective on this subject. Best would probably be the Screaming Eagle Race Tuner and some Dyno time. Most cost effective, or best for mild performance and good mileage, who knows.

Between fuelpak, power commander, SERT, Cobra Power Pro, canned maps, etc... There are a dozen or so options.

For an air cleaner and pipes, I've read alot of different opinions about whether xieds are enough to handle it. The fuel pak gets plugged alot on Vance and Hines rep, but it seems overly complicated to tune to your bike for the price point. You go with a set map basically then tweak values yourself based on their feedback to tune out decel pops etc. Also I don't see alot of guys running them beyond a stage 1 setup.

Figure out what you want now, and look at what you may do in the future. If you are ever thinking of cams or motor work, maybe you should spend more now to save down the road with a system that can handle more agressive setups as well.

If you just want a setup that can handle the extra flow without being lean or choppy, but don't care about max power, I would suggest calling dealerships and looking at a good price for a stage 1 flash. Keeps an extra component out of the chain that could fail down the road or obfuscate some
other issue, or cause you a headache with some trying to void a warranty claim in the electrical. Some dealerships do the 103 Stage 1 Flash on the 96', which as far as I understand basically does what the xieds do for a stock bike. Little more fuel, cools temps down.

I haven't done a stage 1 myself yet, but I've been researching all the different fuel management systems. Xieds and fuelpak just don't seem like they would be worth it to me (xieds are great for a stock bike just bringing it to life from what I read though, not knocking them). I know eventually I will want to do cams or up in size so I have narrowed it down to the SERT or the Cobra myself (needing to research the Cobra more, only seen feedback from two people, and seems too good to be true almost).

Between the two the fuel pak will be better because it lets you tweak ratio values throughout the curve instead of just the overall ratio. Whether it's best at that price range? I don't know.

From forum accounts (heavy grain of salt) the stage 1 flash can be had from $75 to $200 depending on the dealer. Don't know what it's like in your area but I have 8 dealers within an hour and 15 minutes, so I know someone has to have a good price.

Sorry, bored at work and ranting since I've been thinking about it so much lately myself trying to work it all out in my head.

I like the terry components TV3 . it works good and its plug and play. compared to a SE race tuner there is only about a 3 percent difference in how it manages fuel (for the set up that my mechanics other customer was using). My mechanic had a customer dyno his bike with S.E. tuner and then with a terry components TV 3 . The difference was barely discernible. A lot of guys will tell you that the downloads with a dyno tune is the only way to go but a lot of the newer auto tuners are really doing a great job. It seems to be personal preference . I like not having to mess with my tuning. I have good acceleration, no noticeable popping on decel, bike runs cooler.
The new power vision , the cobra auto tuner , tts mastertune, S.E. pro super tuner, zippers thundermax with auto tune and the terry components unit all seem to be fine tuners and each has type of tuner has many fans.

If you decide on a EFI management set up that is not just plug and play Fuel Moto is a sponsor forum and they have great deals on power vision and power commander EFI stuff.
One last thing to consider is who is going to tune your bike and what set up do they know how to tune. Good luck I know all this is a lot but I hope it helps you out.

If you aren't planning any motor work down the road, I'd look at the Dobeck TFI. Slightly more involved in the installation, but it does alot better job than the XIED's for just a little more money.

Agree...Dobeck Performance (www.dobeckperformance.com) has a nice line-up of tuners for HD (TFI, GEN3, GEN4). If you plan to drag race the Dyna on weekends - go w/SERT...if not - check out Dobeck & make sure you ask for any discounts (military, LE, FD, etc.).

I'm biased to the ThunderMax with Auto Tune. I had the XIEDs and FuelPak on the bike (not at the same time) and the ThunderMax makes it scream. No decel pop, lots of low end pull. It makes adjustments as you ride and will get the bike dialed in without a dyno.
If you make any equipment changes later just load a new map.
People have had good experiences with lots of tuning systems, your success may depend on the know how of the person setting it up.
