Hey there folks,
anyway so I buy a ride to live /live to ride derby cover with chrome eagle on it from HD, wait a couple of weeks to get it, go to put it on and it turns out the cover they sold me measures 71/8th" but my stock '08 cover is actually 7 3/8ths! So that leaves a 1/8th" gap between the cover and the housing all around right, but the guys at HD are telling that's the only model, they are all like that, I just have to live with it,and get a gasket. Are they right? they tell e they sell lots of these and that is just the way it is, I gave it back- it just doesn't look right to me! What do you guys 'N gals think?
They are all that way. When I fabricated mine I made sure it was the full diameter just for that reason. As long as it has 5 bolt holes it bolts right up.
K thanks 8541! that's what I needed to know,mmmmmmmm-maybe i'll go back and get it after all!
What I'd still like to know is why HD doesn't fabricate new parts for our newer bikes that would actually fit! And be able to keep our re-useable rubber gasket. I guess that would just make too much sense, then they would have a stock pile of these obselete derby covers and , bottom line they would make less money.
I guess Ultimately it wouldn't look real bad, but i know some day they will make one that does fit and this one would end up on a shelf......or wall plaque OOHHHHHH That would be brilliant!
