Default Alternator question

I am a new rider, just got my first bike (a 2005 SuperGlide) this summer. I am pumped to learn as much about this bike and do as much to it/ for it as I can, so there's probably gonna be a bunch of questions!

I took the bike off of the battery tender yesterday and ran it for a while (at idle, didn't go for a ride). The green light was on on the tender (indicating a full charge), when I hooked it back up, it was amber again, and took a little while to go back to green. My question is: does the alternator function to charge the battery when the bike is sitting at idle, or does it have to be moving?

Sorry if this seems like a dumb question.

Thanks

The bike uses a lot of energy to start the motor. At idle you are probably producing enough juice to run the bike but not enough to charge the battery. I have noticed that if I start the bike just to put her away that the battery tender will be yellow for a little while before it goes green. I think you should be fine, but a good run will definitely help to charge the battery vs letting it idle....
