I'm looking for some pipes for my '06 Wide Glide, right now I have straight pipes which sound good, but are just a bit too loud. (I know I must be getting old). Suggestions for pipes with a low sound, I don't want stock, but deeper without setting off car alarms. Thanks!
The obvious answer is to get some slipons. Use the stock headpipe and get a set of slipons. This will give you the harley sound without the loud sound of a full exhaust system.
i really like the deep sound of the bub seven 2 into 1.
That's the route I took when I went to the stage 1. A little more rumble than stock, but very comfortable on the ears.
When I went to stage 4, they were way way loud. I ordered a Bub's quiet baffle for them and they are once again about right, but still louder than I had them at stage 1 with the stock baffle.
I know how annoying some of the dual straight pipes can be, a riding buddy has a set and I, and everyone else, hate to ride close behind him, they are just obnoxious sounding and high pitched instead of a deep rumble.
The Bub 7's 2-1's are a popular pipe in my group. I bought mine from Dennis Kirk a little over a year ago for $192 to my door! I read about that deal on this site. I still sometimes pull out that receipt just to make sure my memory is still intact. Yup, $192!

Thanks for the replies, I tried baffles, they were quiet, but still sounded thin & kind of 'ratty'. I will certainly look at the slip-on option and the bub's
I've stock headers and SE slip-ons... they sound pretty good to me and I get a lot of compliments from people that like the rumble without it being 'obnoxious'
I had a buddy put V&H slip-ons on his Sportster and holy crap they were loud as hell, and kinda tinny too... not sure if he had baffles in them, he traded up to a SG Custom before I found out!
