So I laid my bike down this morning on my way home from work avoiding 3 deer that walked out in front of me at a distance of about 10 feet. I was only going around 20 MPH but hit the ground hard. I was wearing 3 layers of military clothing, a FF helmet and thick winter gloves. The bike has VERY minor cosmetic damage. As far as I can tell there's nothing else wrong with bike but I haven't ridden it yet so I don't know if there's any mechanical damage. As for me I'm sore all over and I have 3 broken ribs from landing on the left side of my chest. So I'll be off the bike for awhile and planning changes to the bike with the insurance money. Ride safe fellas.
We have a lot of bike accidents in Texas because of all the deer. The last corner I come around to get to work is where they like to hang out. Fellow workers make fun of me because I go so slow around that corner but one morning a buck was standing right in the middle of my lane and just stopped. I was going slow enough to stop and he finally moved along.
Good thing you were only going 20MPH. I'ld say you were very lucky.
Thanks guys, the deer are getting ridiculous here. It's getting pretty dangerous to ride. I've had a few near misses lately. I go slow through that area everyday because of all the deer I see there. At this point I'm more butt hurt about my bike than anything else. My pride is a little hurt too. I guess I've been riding around with the "it won't happen to me" syndrome. That didn't work out too well for me, lol.
The only thing worse than an unpredictable roaming deer in front of you is more than one unpredictable deer in the road.
Thought I saw one but getting closer reveels two and both shot out in different dicrections.
I hate when that happens.
I have been lucky with the deer, I miss. Knock on wood.
Heal well, see you on the road ,probibly with some major horn upgrade.
I have been riding on the street for 34 years. I stopped riding at night 34 years ago because I have no idea what deer are thinking. Get well..............
