2008 Fat Bob QR Windshield Woes
PaDutch, I like the look of that touring shield, looks good on your bike, the overall shape is much better in terms of style vs. my compact shield on my FXDF. Not sure they make one for my ride, double lights...no dice! Really liking the idea/looks of the Clearview Shields with the recurve, extra height and nice curve option might be just what I need for cooler weather...and I can still use my H-D QR mounts if I understand correctly. Might have to give them a call today.
So after browsing a few of the other forums for shield info, I learned of Clearview Shields. I saw they made a replacement shield for my FXDF, I liked the idea and decided to take advantage of a sale offer on a blem shield. I called and spoke with Mark at Clearview Shields, he recommended a 21" shield with an upper recurve option. The shield arrived via UPS a few days later.
The next day I removed the HD QR Shield from my FXDF and followed the instructions that came with my Clearview Shield. Here are a few pics of my process thus far.
In pic below I set my HD QR shield over top of the new Clearview Shield.
Not only taller but wider too!

Starting to remove HD hardware, clamps and vertical supports removed, now I can see better alignment.

Better view and right side up, I placed Clearview Shield over top of my HD shield.

Installed my HD vertical supports/clamps so I can do road test per Clearview's recommendation. From what I understand, a road test with the protective wrap can give a good idea of shield performance, but still qualify for replacement if you don't like it.

New shield on my bike, ready to go for road test.

Another angle of new shield installed on bike.

After ride report:
39 degrees during my short ride this evening, WOW, what a difference! Stopped back home and made a small adjustment, first position, I placed the new shield very close to headlight. Then I moved clamps to the top of the forks, approx 1" above the light. I was trying to eliminate/deflect as much air as possible, but I guess allowing a small gap above the light helps deflect the air up over my head, creating less of a vacuum behind the shield. Virtually no wind buffeting at 65 mph, much more comfortable. I was very impressed at the difference between the two shields. Can't wait to ride more. Lots of the air is deflected away from my hands and body as well. With a good set of gloves I would be good for the long haul. I'm looking forward to removing the protective wrap and installing the HD hardware for good. Hope to get some ride time over the Turkey holiday this week. Stay tuned for more pics...
