Battery Goes Dead
When a bike sits for a while it will drain the battery some. When the bike starts it will recharge. There is just so many cycles of charging in a battery.
To extend the life of the battery have it on a tender until you pull out of the garage and reconnect when you return.
The battery is always at top charge and without the constant drain and recharge it will last much longer. I sold one of my bikes that the battery was past 9 years and tested out well.
I store 7 bikes and 6 vehicles in my collection and never had a failure for years.
The tenders only cost $20 at Walmart. Why go through the cost and fuss of not having a bike start and the $150 cost of a new battery.
Having a tender is the way to fly. Both dealers in my area install a pig tail on the bike for a tender as a courtesy to the buyer. Off course they use it to connect a tender to the bikes that sit for awhile.
