My Breakout is a 2016 I bought new the end of December 2015. Only have about 4400 miles on it. Warranty is good until the end of next month. I have a HD tender to keep the battery charged. I've used the tender for at least a year since the bike sits for awhile sometimes. If I don't plug in the tender for a few days the bike won't start (battery dead). I know the alarm system drains some of the battery that's why I have the tender on it.
My question is would the battery be covered under the 24 month factory warranty (wishful thinking)? Or is it pro-rated and have to pay some for a battery from the dealership? If I have to pay for it I am going to get something other than the HD brand battery.
Wasn't sure how HD deals with it. My sister in-laws car battery died last week (2015 Toyota Camry). I jumped started it and drove it to the dealer and they replaced it for free under the 36 month-36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.
Thanks
In case someone wants to know. The battery is covered under the 2 year warranty. After being on the tender all day yesterday and last night (green light) I went to start the bike this morning and barely started. Rode up to the dealer to check it out. Tried to start it back up after I got there and it would not turn over. After waiting 2 hours (25 miles from my house) they told me the battery was fine. They said they did a quick charge on the battery and tested it with their computer and the volts and cranking amps were good. I went to start it to leave and cranked a little slow but started and started when I get home.
Maybe my HD battery tender isn't working right. The light is usually yellow then turns green after a few hours so I assume it works. Probably going to go ahead a buy a new battery anyway.
Dont know about the rest, but the HD Lithium IRON, not ION will not explode. Whole different animal. Had one in my EG for almost 2 years and it starts her up like a bat out of hell. Much better cranking power than the AGM.
