Plenty of good advice but my question is this: If you checked it and it was not registering, why would you add a whole quart. I would have thought of adding maybe a half quart and then checking, then adding more if needed. Regardless, if you don't have a service manual, Get one! It will help you learn about your bike.

I've got an 02 and 05 Dynas. Both have oil coolers. When I change the oil, both bikes get 2 3/4 qts. The levels are checked, bikes ridden and checked again after idling on the jiffy stand for a couple of minutes. This idling is supposed to scavenge the oil from the engine to the oil reevoir. Been doing the oil changes for many years, this hasn't failed me yet.

Run it till it's warm, check it and suck it out with clear tubing or a turkey baster. Slightly over while hot will not hurt anything but way too full will push dip out unless its screws in. Regard to what people say it will not cause it to blow oil out breather system unless its all way to top with a screwed in dip since these engines are dry sump with a duel oil pump ( pressure side for engine and larger suction side to remove oil) and the breather is in head.

It was hot when I got the false low--20 minute ride from the shop. I got a floppy dipstick (getting old...) so I checked it on the stand. Now that I think about it, the lot has a very slight grade. Didn't think it would matter that much--the oil barely registered if I remember right. It was below the "add a quart" line. I
'm losing it, I guess.

BTW, I have the service manual. My owner's manual got ruined, though. Thanks for the help.
