SURFOR Chop,

The longer banana boards look interesting, but the finned air cleaner cover at $465.00 seems a little steep for a non functioning accessory. just sayin'. Guess someone will spring for it...dd50
BTW I use the mid controls and somtimes the H-D hiway pegs, but extended usage of the hiways aggravate my lower back. Guess i like the hiways higher than Harley designed the ones for the Dyna...tp

I purchased my '02 FXDL used with forward controls installed. Even though I'm tall, I decided that I didn't like them. There was no place to move your feet for a different riding position. I bought a set of stock mid controls & highway pegs. After installing the mini-floorboards, I'm happy. I can cruise on the highway pegs, yet have good foot support in the mid position.

At 5'7" I run the HD reduced reach forward controls on my 2010 FXDB. After riding a couple hundred miles with the mids I just wasn't comfortable. I'd say what others have said. run the mids w/ highway pegs, and see how she feels.

I got fowards and I would like to know if any of you got a part number for mids mount. Can't locate anything that fits over the internet.

If you're interested in a set of OEM Dyna Police Defender floor boards for your 03 Low Rider let me know.

That is Exactly the set up I am looking for!!!
I test road a FatBoy and a FatBob today and although I prefered the ride and hadling of the FatBob I felt more comfortable on the FatBoy because I am Vertially challanged! Some parts seem to infere that FLD boards will fit but I have not been able to locate a set.

I want to loose the quiet pipes and install some foot boards and contols like yours so can you provide the details of what works? How about more photos of your set up?
Bob

Ok thanks for the tease...LOL! Do you know if they will fit on a '11-'12 FatBob FXDF to solve my vertical challange issue?
If so do you want them to go to good use?

I run mid controls and have highway pegs to stretch my legs on longer journeys. I find I feel safer and more in control in traffic or twisties with mids as opposed to fwd controls. I feel more balanced and can move my weight easily by lifting myself on the mids that I could not do with fwds. Others might find it more comfortable the other way round. I'm 5'9".
For a beginner on heavy weights Harley I'd definitely recommend a set up with mids, but it depends how your wife feels more in control.

Default my view

on all of my performance bike I run mid controls. They are comfortable on long trips. There is no way that you can control your bike with your legs sticking out in front of you. The best for handling/controllable is a set of rear sets but those are very uncomfortable for road use and just unpractical.

A lot depends upon the inseam length. Mid controls mount higher giving more lean angle than floor boards. I am building a hot rod bagger & putting on mid controls by drilling out my inner primary. Floor boards are the best for long distance riding as far as comfort goes. I believe the best touring posture is found on a Harley touring bagger. I am changing because I require more control while riding.

Highway pegs are still on but I do not use them much.

Howard,
I don't necessarily disagree with you. I have owned 22 bikes over the past 44 years that I have been riding which included all types and brands (well except British bikes) including knee draggers and road race bikes along with some European barely streetable roadrace clones with a license plate I built. This bike however will be primarily used for long distance touring type of rides however I am not ready to commit to an all out touring bike like an Electra Gluide.
One of my plans is to mount a full length bag which while it will intail some fabrication and a swap of the fender it fits surprisingly nicely behind the shocks on the FatBob.
So for now I am insearch of a nice set of boards and a reduced reach control set without going broke.
Bob
