A little confused though - your image isn't a FXDXT fairing.
The nice thing about the FXDXT fairing is the adjustable windshield, but like you have seen the price is high. Most people know the value and unless you find on CL or local you most likely will be paying a high price.
Have you looked into other options like a Rifle Roadster or maybe off an old metric bike?

it is an fxrt fairing
very differnt than fxdxt
fxrt is a frame mounted fairing similar to road glide
