Default FXDF Mid to Forward Mount Question

I have an 08 Fat Bob that has factory mids. I am converting it to forward controls using the HD kit. I have a (probably stupid) question.
How so I remove the stock mid rear brake pedal? I have the rod out, but need the pedal off (will keep the peg mount for an alternate set of foot rests).
Do I remove the C clip with retaining clip pliers (there don't seem like enough space to do this), and then pull the pedal off from the inside?
Remove the foot peg assembly, then remove the clip (can't get a hex wrench on the peg mounts due to the stock exhaust)?
I have looked everywhere and can't find this mentioned before, so I'm wondering if it is getting too late and I'm not thinking clearly......

Found this note in the Instruction Sheet:

Rear Brake Assembly
NOTE
It may be helpful to remove the exhaust to access the rear
brake components. Refer to the Service Manual for the exhaust
removal.

Thanks, Rene that did the trick! The instructions that came with the set didn't include that important piece of information....
I loosened up the exhaust, and lifted it out of the way with a floor jack. There still wasn't a lot of room to get a good bite on the bolt. It went easy once I went from 8mm hex to a T45 socket to get the pegs off.

I've got everything installed, but I have a few things to figure (hopefully with all of your help)
I know I need to figure out something to do with the shifter link. No big deal...
I am wondering about the rear brake pedal height (of the new pedal)
I have the threads on the brake rod about 3/8" from being all the way in. This is as far as I can turn it without resistance. The pedal height is so nearly vertical that I can't press the pedal without lifting my foot off the peg.
Is there any way of knowing if this is the right pedal/kit/rod? I thought they were all the same, but this can't be right. Would another brake pedal (billet) make any difference?
I can't find anybody else with a FXDF going mid to forward to compare.
TIA

Adjust it in more.

I have about 3/8" remaining to the right of the jam nub, but there is resistance when I try to go further. I see that your is all the way in. I don't want to force it and risk damage to the rear brake assy, and don't know why it would be getting VERY hard to turn with travel remaining.

Take it apart, look inside, might just be tap & die time.

You're good! I did take it apart and there were shaving on the end of the shaft. I turned the jam nut to the end and it hung up. It does look like I will need a die.
When I got the box with the controls the brake rod had fallen out of the package. It threaded on fine so I didn't have any reason to think there was damage.
No I have to go buy a die set.....
What a PITA this has been. Hope all mods aren't this troublesome.....

Thanks for the advice!

Thanks, that was it! The stock brake rod had fewer threads, so it didn't need to have clean threads. Ran a tap through the brake cylinder and it went together perfect. This is my first Harley, but it seems they have a log of welding slag in their holes....
