Really good and informative thread, thank you. I had no idea that selecting fork oils had so many dynamics and certainly beyond simple hydraulics isn't it? Maybe that simple hydraulics notion of mine is what gave me the brain fart to begin with.

Now you know why I have stuck with experimenting to find what really works for my ride.
I try not to confuse myself with too much information and do my own tests, then it is real world and suited to my exact situation.
One could go batshit trying to understand some of theory behind some of this stuff...lol

LOL, I "get it" now, thanks for all the personalized help, my friend.
when progressive took my stock fld with 4k on the clock, it was starting to wobble pretty bad. really notice when I let go of my bars at slow speeds.
they changed out the front springs with heavier ones and a lighter oil.
the wobble is gone my ride is way better than before
night and day difference
they put 430s in back with heavy springs too.
they know what they are doing over there at progressive.
couldn't be happier
they asked me what I want on my bike
I told them I don't know **** about suspension just do it like it was your bike.
glad I did that.
they know whats up
my bike will never roll on stock suspension again
Well, talked with my indy guy and taking it back in tomorrow to have him change out the fork oil to a heavier oil. I'll let you know what it had and what we changed to, and of course if it makes a difference when it's done.
I also called progressive to see about pricing and their recommendation for front fork springs. Waiting for a reply.
This has been a great thread, thanks to all who posted.
For your answer about cartrige forks go to Racetech's website. They have a great explanation on the difference. They also have plenty of info there to help you understand suspension systems better.

Thank you for the heads up DC!
Well, my indy guy changed out the oil to a heavier type and the clunking is gone! I couldn't ask him exactly what grade because he had to deal with a last minute family emergency so another guy finished it off and he didn't know what grade was set out for him. But when I get a chance I will find time to discuss it further and report if anyone cares to know.
For those of you in the orange county, ca. area, if you want a reputable tire, wheel and mod installer, Wheel Works in Garden Grove is awesome. They are my indy dealer and there were no questions asked on changing this oil thing out for me, They are the ones who initially installed my chrome sliders. This recent work was performed for free because they stand behind their work. We share info here about what works right? These guys are very good in my book. I highly recommend them.

Actually I am in Orange County, but I've never thought to use them for anything other than trueing spoke wheels. Thanx for the tip! For general work and parts, I can also recommend Freedom Cycles in Orange. And FWIW, after that earlier thread I referred to, I wound up using 30wt Bel-Ray fork oil. Works great as long as the weather doesn't get too cold (and it usually doesn't!).
20 is to thick for youre dyna. i used it and quickly switched to 10wt. with the 20wt you're front end will not move fast enough to stay connected with the road at times and will bounce a little. will it help with the bottoming out?, YES it will., but the best way to get over the bottoming out is to add a larger spacer in the fork tube, with youre stock oil or 10wt.

Cool, another local. I'll look into the other shop too, thank you also for the tip.
