we run em and love them. if I stay out of the throttle I get 45 mpg , twist it and its game over on mileage ( think holley )
if your bike is stock I don't think you will see much gain, some but it wont be mind shattering, I'd probably put my money into something else. if you are adding a cam /cams and exhaust hell ya. I don't care what some people say and what "mods" they do to it, the CV isn't a good carb for a modded engine ,once swapped out you realize it pretty quick. get a S&S or mukuni

Your CV carb is fine. Even after doing cams. Put that money towards cams. If its an older model do the camchain tensioner upgrade as well.

I have a OEM CV on a 88 incher with S&S 510 Cams, Thunderheader, and a Screamin Eagle Intake. I have been thinking of swapping out the CV for a S&S Super E or a Mikuni 42 HSR but my cousin said can only expect 90 miles per tank of fuel with either of the options.

Now I am pretty sure I am gonna dial in the CV better and be happy. I already have the Sportster needle and fatter jets in my CV, but the jetting still feels lean at least on the bottom.

Question...

Does the Screamin Eagle open backplate with the K&N filter, and football cover provide enough vacuum for the CV carb slide to open fully?

I'm running the S&S G, and the performance is great. If you're mostly stock or only mild mods I'd likely stay with the stock cv carb.

quit listening to your cousin he is incorrect...and you wont be happy because there will always be that voice in your head telling you ...." man , I know this engine is capable of so much more...."

S&S E carb or Mikuni HSR 42 carbs are excellent. the mikuni will get worse mileage than the S&S, but will be slightly quicker off the line . Both work great. I have used both and if I still had a carbed bike I would still have one or the other of them.
