So I take a ride over the holidays and the next day I go out to the garage and my rear tire is flat. It seems I picked up a screw somewhere. The tire has less than a 1000 miles on it. Dealer won't fix/plug the tire because of the liability. Local tire shop won't repair/plug the tire, again liability issues. Am I screwed (no pun intended) and have to buy a new tire or should I opt for putting a tube in???
Never had a problem personally but my buddy lost a plug on his rear tire on the way to Laughlin this year. He was riding right in front of me at 80 on the freeway with his girlfriend on the back. It was quite freaky. I used to always advise to patch it but after seeing that I say get a new tire.
A patch and a tube I might go for but not a plug. Plugs have been known to fail to do their job and it's bad enough in a car tire. I had a rear tire go at speed many years ago and never want to do it again, but then it's your butt not mine.
Never had a plug come out but had two leak (in cars) Too risky for a leak on a bike. Time you pay some one to patch (inside) and tube you may as well get a new tire. Do not plug and tube. If you stay local, go slow and look before you drive every time you can plug but that's really not possible and a pain. I would replace it.
