If it were me I would tear it all down and get the powder coat work done and then have a local respoke it or try it myself. I was in Cyclevisions a few years ago. They are a block from my work. Randy the owner respoked a wheel while I was looking around. He whipped it out faster then I would have ever imagined possible. He did it right on the front counter. I was impressed to say the least.

I would go with Joe at powder pro. He did all my stuff. He even re-did some stuff for free due to issues that weren't his fault.

Re-spoke the wheel yourself. There is all kinds of good info on here about how to do it. As long as your patient you can get it done. It took me six tries when I did my 21 on my streetbob, but the last try, it came together very quickly. After having done that, I now can tell on the first run of spokes if i am doing it right or wrong.

Had mine done locally, hubs $30 each, Rims $40 each, spokes $2 each. laced them myself, fairly easy job, free. Took them in to get trued, $70 each. New wheel bearings, $25 per wheel, installed myself, free. Mounted my own tires, free. Total price, just under $500. Well worth it.

The guy that is doing is a mechanic and powder coats. He has done my lower forks and axle covers for me before. He has also done Robbie13's wheels and lowers. I havent had any problems with him.

Respoking myself I could probably do it but that is one area I would like someone that knows what they are doing do it.

Sounds about right, price wise, compared to when I had mine done...you have to want spokes as opposed to cast/forged wheels...there are some jobs I just prefer to leave to those with more experience,too...

That sounds like a fair price. Have your pulley powder coated also. It really adds to it.

I've been looking at a new set of wheels from these guys....

http://www.hdwheels.com/Product.htm

The cost is mind boggling.

I lace/true my road bike racing wheels (bicycle) yet, not comfortable lacing wheels for my FXDLI. Lacing and truing wheels is both technical, time consuming and an art. Something that is mastered over time and not during a one shot (or 2 wheel) deal.

If buying off eBay, I would ensure a return policy if the wheels are not true. I am always skeptical of online bidding deals that undercut online vendors by a substantial amount. You don't know what you're getting until it is in hand. Further, attempting to identify counterfeit product is sometimes difficult.

+1 on Joe, I have been a member on here for a while and never read a negative thing about him. if I could part time with my baby being wheeless, I'd pick him to do the work.
