After seeing these I contacted V&H and told them that I currently own a 2010 Street Bob and that I plan on changing the rear fender to a longer stretched fender that would allow me to use hangers for the bags and pipes much like the Switchback has. I also asked if the system would mount up to the 96" motor without any issue and if the side brackets they use to hang the system would work on the SB. They emailed me back saying that it is not recommended to install this system on the SB and that they didn't know about the fit issues.

Here is what I would change on the system.

The bracket that they made that allows the buyer to hang the exhaust in the rear with support, I would design it to mount along the inside of the fender for the reinforcemnt and strength. This would not take away from the look of the current setup along the fender edge. I know that this would take away from the gap between the tire and the fender, but you gotta give some to get some. As far as the bar running behind the shock, I am still thinking about that!

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the struts on the Switch Back and the Street Bob as far as the mount points that would not allow this V&H system hanger setup to work/fit?

Also, does anyone know if a system designed to fit the 103" would mount up to a 96" without any issues?
The 96" - 103" should not be an issue ... they are the same motor with the inside of the jugs bored out and larger pistons ... externally from the exhaust ports, there is no difference ...

I believe the rear fender strut measurements are the same ... have no independent verification ...

I think your concept of having the reinforcing struts running down the back part of the rear fender moved to the interior of the fender is a great idea ...

I think that if the front of the pipe were supported with a cantilever off the transmission side cover it would obviate the necessity of the forward angled downtube by the shock ...

... then the issue is whether the right side muffler would be adequately supported by a mount under the bike and a rear fender muffler mount ....

I think that it would work ... you could probably just get some carbon steel strap from Home Depot or somewhere and fashion inner fender supports ... and use the remaining stock to bend/twist/cut (and powdercoat) into rear fender supports ....

I might try to draw a diagram in my spare time if I get ambitious ...

I think you're on to something ....

I have been looking at this design that V&H has to support the exhaust. If you were to take the support to the inside of the fender like I discussed and then joined bothe side to each other with some type of reinforcement support, would you be able to eliminate the down bar? What purpose could that bar be for anyways? It doesn't seem like it could do much, it's just hanging there. It's not supporting the bags! The only thing I can see it doing is creating some resistance like a spring with the bend it makes. Almost looks like the over engineered the whole thing.
I asked them to provide pics of the left side and they aren't able to!!!! Guess they have some secret device over there they don't want us Dyna owners to see yet. Guess I'll wait to see the install directions when they get around to posting them. Maybe even order the brakets and start chopping them up to install them on the inside of the fender. Sound like a spring project!

I was going through my photo album and came accross this pic where I took the dual exhaust setup on a bagger and a street bob pic and spliced them together to give the street bob the dual exhaust setup. I made this pic about 4-6 months ago and posted it on a few pages here in the forum. I got some positive feed back and some not so positive. Anyways, I sent this pic to V&H and Samson telling them that there would be a few people interested in this setup. Again they both told me its a no go idea and wasn't posible. Maybe I should have applied for a patient on the setup prior to sending the pic to them, then I could be reaping some of the benifits of this setup. But, whatever I am glade that someone has built this system. Now if they could build a system that had this type of pipe and not the big 3" ends, I prfer the pipe to be the smae width from end to end.

Interesting..... this has caught our attention. We just might design a fender that would solve this issue without the hideous support bars along the outside. Anybody want to take a ride out to California and offer up their Dyna for a prototype?!
