Next thing to the aftermarket ... saddlebag and fender extensions to give the 'tail dragger' look ... you heard it here first ...
I have a feeling we'll be seeing batwings for the FLD in the next few months. Already a bunch of companies making detatch batwings for FL Softails and RK's. Can't imagine it would be a real big step for one of those companies to design the brackets for the FLD windshield mounts.
I agree. THE two things that it needs most are the right bags that come down to fender level, able to hold something besides a small jacket and also the correct front springs. I could live with the looks of the bags if they were functional at least. But they are a double negative to me. Small and odd looking.
Nothing more than nice looking dual coolers as Jam said...lol. Well, I guess it's all personal preference. Lots of folks like them actually.
The day Ironbags comes out with their FLD hardware for their leather bags, mine are gone forever, did the springs yesterday.
yeah Bob , i think i'd be interested in some leather hardbags..
wow what a huge price for those pipes but i guess when you figure you are doing the whole pipe its going to be a lot just like it is on the FLH bikes...but yes i agree the hangers kill it why would you make them like that for a bike that is a "switch" bike...nice first go at it V&H but came up a bit short IMO. And also to me why would you want 2-2 on a SB? Part of the reason i wanted a SB is the 2-1, that along with being a dyna bagger says i am a PERFOMANCE bike that is also a touring bike...if it cames stock with a 2-2 i would have looked over this bike and kept my night train...as said above i to feel the bike is clunky i think HD missed the mark on the springs and shocks on the front and rear of this sled...to me the rear seems harsh like its too firm yet bottoms easy...maybe a set of shocks with a progressive type spring would do the trick? and the front end im not sure about sometimes i feel it to should be softer yet frim up at the end of its stroke.
Here is what dual exhaust can sound like. It gives a deeper tone. These are 2 into 1 into 2 though. That chrome strap is being moved to the inside of the fender. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gtNApAYCoU

The problem with the batwing is the rake angle btw the RK and the FL front end which is more thn 6 degrees so you will use the original mounts for the FLD or they will come up with a new set to have a unique fit

true, but it cant be that hard with the computer and CnC to come up with the brackets so i dont know why it is taking so long.
for me the worst part is, i have the cash sitting in the bank waiting for
one to come out.

LOL, once it comes out, you won't have that cash long. I'll venture to guess that by the time you buy it, install it, and add all the other happy-horseshit you will then want; like crashbars, lowers, radio, etc. You will be in it at LEAST another $3k.

I'm keeping mine a cruiser.
Have fun.
NOPE,
being the cheap BASTARD that i am
just a standard batwing ( are you reading memphis shades) which
i will install myself...and i dont want lowers for the fairing as the batwing
will do what i need.
i already have the engine guard ( crashbar just doesnt sound right) paid a whole $115 shipped on Ebay for a brand new Harley black one.
canvas covers for the engine guard would be nice especially for the climate i live in since i ride all year round when there is no salt no matter the outside temp, i have seen those on Ebay for as little as $40 shipped.
i definitely WANT road lights just not sure what im going with yet so i cant
even guess what im going to pay but it wont be retail if i can help it.
some type of tour pack, if my surgery goes well we will be riding to biketoberfest this fall by way of myrtle beach and i will need the extra storage, again not sure what im going to do but Ebay will definitely be my friend.
Here are some of my thoughts on this system. I have been trying to get the true-dual setup for my Dyna ever since I purchased it. I email just about every exhaust builder out there and they all said the same thing, "Not Possible". Yet here we are!
After seeing these I contacted V&H and told them that I currently own a 2010 Street Bob and that I plan on changing the rear fender to a longer stretched fender that would allow me to use hangers for the bags and pipes much like the Switchback has. I also asked if the system would mount up to the 96" motor without any issue and if the side brackets they use to hang the system would work on the SB. They emailed me back saying that it is not recommended to install this system on the SB and that they didn't know about the fit issues.
Here is what I would change on the system.
The bracket that they made that allows the buyer to hang the exhaust in the rear with support, I would design it to mount along the inside of the fender for the reinforcemnt and strength. This would not take away from the look of the current setup along the fender edge. I know that this would take away from the gap between the tire and the fender, but you gotta give some to get some. As far as the bar running behind the shock, I am still thinking about that!
Does anyone know if there is a difference between the struts on the Switch Back and the Street Bob as far as the mount points that would not allow this V&H system hanger setup to work/fit?
Also, does anyone know if a system designed to fit the 103" would mount up to a 96" without any issues?
