Save your money!!! Get a torque wrench and service manual and you too can do all your own work. These bikes are not very hard to work on. It just seems intimidating but it really isn't. Last winter, I tore my bike apart and had lots of powder work done. All using the manual.
Fix your own **** and take pride knowing it was done right, per the same manual, they are gonna use on it.
I have not been able to have a dealer define "critical fasteners" I and others can make assumptions regarding those, but does anyone have a definative list?
The big ones are the engine mounts, steering head, axles, swingarm, drain bolts, and other miscellaneous stuff. Sometimes exhaust stud nuts will back off, you never know. It's kind of subjective. Some bolts will loosen, some won't.
I checked fasteners at my 15k maintenance on my bike and only found about 2 of the 12 engine mount bolts were not to spec, but they weren't loose either.
Do it yourself, get the manual, critical fasteners are listed in the manual as are the torque specifications. Go ahead and go with the synthetic oil of your choice. Everybody has their own preference on the oil. Keep your receipts. If you don't have a manual then have the dealer do the service.
I agree with SuperglideKen. Get a manual and do it yourself. Just keep your receipts and keep records of when you did the maintenance and you will be fine. It won't void the warranty. And the money you save can be spent on more important things, like chrome. Good luck.
Not sure about the dealer in your area but around here they suck so bad I would rather pay for what should be warranty work. They will never touch my bike again!!!
