FLD Switchback Wish List Update
The second one is a two step, polish and sealer and it works pretty damn good, just time consuming due to 2-steps. Lasts pretty good though, so far.
got both sealer and polish for $20 at the Long Beach Swap meet
Flitz is just so-so.
As for the G.O.D. cruise control I am not sure I know who/what G.O.D. stands for. Please clue me in.

1. What feature you like the best about the SB?
*FL front end
*Handling
*Performance
*Dyna with hard bags
*Overall design. It appeals to me. It is different from the rest Keep that.
*Styling and simplicity
*70s FLH Reissue (minus 4 in. tire)
*Lighter, quicker option over a touring bike with hard bags and without the overly skinny front ends of other Dynas.
*Polish versus chrome because it looks like an older FL with polish.
*Quick, responsive handling and power
2. What feature you like the least about the SB?
- Polish aluminum instead of chrome
- Hard bags
- Hard bags and front springs
- Lack of dual disc brakes up front
- Small bags and gas tank (bags should be full sized with a 5 gallon gas tank
- Lack of cruise control as an add-on or option. It is a cruiser meant for long distance. Rider is averaging 1K a month.
- Saddlebag cover has a problem when opening and closing and is too close to detaching back rest system.
- Bags are too small and lid rattle.
- Primary and derby should have been chrome or gloss black.
- No cruise control
3. What would you like to see changed on the SB?
Ř Chrome instead of polished aluminum
Ř FL accessory drive lights
Ř Large bags or the availability of hard leather
Ř Change the marketing
Ř Change out the front springs and bags
Ř Addition of dual discs up front
Ř Larger gas tank
Ř More options such as trunk to hold stuff that small bags cannot hold and a fairing. The fairing/trunk should be detachable too; after all it is a switchback.
Ř Bigger tire on rear (Street Glide size)
Ř Chrome, chrome and more chrome
Ř Primary and derby should have been chrome or gloss black
Ř Need adjustable floorboards or immediately make available floorboard extenders/extensions for taller riders
4. If you could change one thing on the SB what would it be?
§ Chrome instead of polish
§ Larger bags that can actually hold something
§ The bags
§ Stronger braking
§ Change the front and rear spring rates so it rides more like a touring bike and offer an air shock option from the factory. Add a chrome package.
§ More chrome, less polished aluminum.
§ Chrome covers
§ Primary and derby covers chrome or gloss black
§ Add cruise control
5. What colors should be offered for the SB?
- Two-tone or more than three basic colors. Maybe have some pin stripping to break up the color
- Merlot and two-tone options
- HD got the colors right; no change
- New dark blue, root beer brown, silver/black two-tone, silver/blue two-tone
- All colors should be an option
- Black with orange pin stripping, black and white two-tone with throw back pattern
- White or blue
6. What made you purchase the SB?
+ FL front end, quick detach windshield/bags, 103 engine
+Performance of the Dyna versus the Softail/touring 103 in engine
+Convertibility, fat front end, handling, free windshield and bags
+Dual purpose idea, overall look, fat front end on a Dyna frame, Nacelle headlamp
+Light touring bike and the switchback effect
+Saw it at the plant in Kansas City and fell in love. Riders first Harley maybe not his last but definitely a great fit. Rider was searching for a long distance cruiser that was comfortable to get back into riding.
+103 ci/6 speed made me do it.
+Walked into HD dealer and my bike was sitting on the showroom floor
+More nimble than a Softail, 103 ci/6 speed, look, convertibility
7. What problems have you experienced with the SB?
v A split O ring behind oil pump which caused the motor to sump oil into crankcase; junk gas gauge which is still not fixed; shrinking gasket on saddlebag lid and the way the lid fits; vibration at around 3K.
v Front forks want to bottom out on bumpy roads; left hard bag lower support the bag coupler does not seat all the way like it should; small amount of vibration between 2800 and 3200 RPMs.
v Front end suspension (spring); options for modifications
v Clunky front end suspension, discovered steering bearing were really loose; vibration especially at high speed/RMPs
v Bags make a lot of noise at ideal and seems like front brake could be stronger
v Front brake is spongy. Dealer replaced front master cylinder at 5200 miles so it fixed problem. The exhaust bolt broke during a 1200-mile ride causing transmission dipstick to come loose. Luckily caught it before it went dry by passing cager. Dealer fixed it at 5200 miles. Vibration is really bad between 2850-3100 RPMs. Not fixed yet.
v Front end might be bottoming out on rough roads
v Lids need to be adjusted.
v Five months, 4K miles only problem is when closing the lids they are too close.
