Default Chrome consultant/chrome front end

I saw a 2012 FXDC at a dealer that had the front end chromed out. After looking on HD website I see that the dealer probably bought the parts from HD custom shop. Things on the like like Get-A-Grip $80, Handlebar Reservoir Cover chrome $80, switch housing chrome $80, chrome fork slivers $390. Basically the whole front end is chromed out which looks pretty nice. Except the price tag crept up of $3k more haha. I have a couple of questions I want to ask because I got a good offer for a 2012 FXDWG before I decided not to go for that model. Apparently there are not many 2012 Street Bobs here but there are a few 2012 Super Glide. I actually think the SG felt a little more comfy for me with mids compared to the SB. However the available SG new are in two tone Red Merlot Sunglo...not my favorite color but I want to see if I can get a winter financing deal and get that 1% rate before the end of this week.

So here is the question. The chromed out front end and the Get-a-grip...all looks like a total of sub-$600. How long does it take to put these chromed out parts on? Are the chrome parts durable? I know some folks have rust problems but my thinking is in my garage it is sort of hot in the summer. Will I be screwing around with rust in sweltering heat in VA with my garage not having any AC or whatever. I guess I can put bike on plywood and cover and put a lamp in the cover inthe winter time etc. But my thinking is a blacked out bike will have less rust problems?

So what do you all think all of these chrome parts on the front end cost (hours or $ or total cost) to install plus all of the parts? Man...I am thinking $3k for the front chromed out is a whole lotta dough for a total of sub-$600 parts if I got that right.

Let me know if this price is outrageous?

BTW...chromed bikes like a SGC looks nice but so do black bikes. For me...I just want a Harley and will got either one of them but I want to get some deal in the purchase since its dead of winter!

If you keep your bike looking good, there is enough chrome on a stock SG to keep you busy. IMHO, it's too much money & too much chrome. I have a Vivid Black 2010 FXDC, and I know how much time is involved in keeping it sharp. Every time you get caught in the rain, all that shiny stuff will need to get wiped off. I'd rather be spending some of that money on gear or parts (tuner, exhaust, AC etc...). The rust thing is a whole different story too. That's just me. Good luck & let us see the new bike when you get it.

Have fun with the new bike. I wouldn't worry about the chrome rusting at all.
