Where to check the temperature?

I bought a infrared thermometer recently and am wondering where the best place is to "shoot" the IR beam on the engine to get a temperature reading?
I did direct the beam at the front cylinder exhaust flange, and got a 10 minute after ride reading of 267 degrees.
What is the consensus?....is that a good place to take a reading and is that reading high, low or about right?
The reading was taken after a 90 mile run at average of 60 mph and then a 2 mile cool down off the highway, and into my garage.

I don't know what oil temps normally run on a Dyna as I don't have a temp guage (yet), but I do know on my Sporty in stock trim oil temps ran 205-210 in the heat of summer after riding for an hour or better. After adding slip-ons, SE breather & X14iEDs oil temp ran about 195 or so under the same conditions.
I don't know what's "normal" or average..
