JRK glad to see you got the problem fixed! Ain't the forums great? I had the same chitty chitty bang bang only at lower RPM. Opened the tank up and found this:

But I got other problems now too. Discovered the factory sealant inside the tank is a filthy mess. Bubbling, peeling, flaking, etc...

Sucks to fix one thing only to find you got more $hit to deal with...
Heading to REX Radiator in Bensenville to see if they can help.

I know this is an older thread but FWIW I had the bike apart last week to replace a throttle cable. While installing the cable I noticed one of the rear intake manifold bolts was missing and the other rear bolt was so loose I could unscrew it with my fingers. Got some new hex cap G8 bolts and buttoned everything up. It was no surprise that my sputtering, hesitating, and stalling was gone. Did a 400 mile trip over the last 2 days and all is well. Hope this helps! Check your intake bolts!
