How much do you guys get fleaced for this service in the U.S.?
Most of you people have no idea, do you."stealer" i think you'll find that as a Harley Tech working at a dealership and sees what costs we have, plus what ongoing year by year training we techs have to do and at the cost to the dealership. We have to service machines most of you wouldn't even know where to look if the battery died.Very disrespectful of you, especially as you are reliant on having your bike properly maintained by top trained technicians.

There are about 250,000 HD Forum members. About how many of us do you figure 'most of you people' amounts to?

Engine oil and primary oil change are very straight forward and simple. You can do either with just your owners manual and supplies. I'm not mechanical at all but when it comes to saving 200+ dollars for a simple oil change I do it myself.

I've developed a great relationship with my dealer. I've been in the back and watched the guys do work on the bikes, hell, they have a full glass window across the entire garage so anyone at anytime can see what exactly they're up to back there. Not only that but, they buy you a lunch when you're waiting on your bike, they'll pick it up for free if you need to. And as long as you keep your maintenance with them, tires are free for life. Now, not all dealerships are like that, the world would be a better place if they were, and even though I'd be comfortable doing my own work. I'm happy giving my business to them. Anyone else have a dealer like that?

Yeah, minus the free tire part....that would be nice!

I've been back in the service area and talked to my mechanic while he was working on my bike & have watched them do service work. I trust them.

I've also got some breaks on parts & labor for other things because I bring my bike to them for services. Full service changing all 3 holes with Amsoil is $244 at my dealer.

By the time I put gas in the truck to drive the 125 mile round trip to get oil, gaskets & filter, then spend my time doing it myself when I got back, I've basically spent an entire day dicking around & spent $30 in gas + the materials to do the service. It's a nice ride to my dealer, and I can ride over there on a Saturday & spend a couple hours messing around at the dealer while they service my bike, and ride back & enjoy the day.

I'm fully capable & have the tools, & there was a time I did all my own service and maintenance work on bikes and vehicles, but with 3 boys & coaching baseball all summer, I don't have a lot of free time during good riding season now days & I would rather spend that free time riding my bike rather than working on it, but that's just me.

For me, it's just a time & convenience issue more than anything.

I see your point and I am glad you have a great relationship with your stealer, I mean dealer, sorry that slipped.

However, why not let your kids work on the bike with you? I let my 5 and 7 year old be my extra set of hands whenever I can. And really, it takes all of 30 minutes to do all 3 holes, most of that time is spent waiting for draining. Mobil 1 is sold at Auto Zone or Advanced Auto for relatively cheap.

The 10,000 mile service in Texas is about the same price. I started doing my own services. It cost $87 for the 6 qaurts of Syn-3, I change the tranny and primary fluid every time I change the oil.
