Stealer quoted me $250 to mount two tires. I was laughing as I hung the phone up went to a Indy Ducati shop across the street, tires mounted and balanced in 15 min $18 OTD! I'll sell the bike before I pay a stealer to work on my ride!

I really like my dealer and all the guys that work there.

But I love the feeling of doing things myself. It really doesn't have anything to do with money but it makes it even better.

Put me down for enjoying doing it myself. I can knock it out quickly, save time, and a couple of bucks too. Id rather spend my Saturdays riding, than waiting for my bike to be serviced.

3) it keeps bread on the mechanics table and $ in his wallet, $ of which i hope he brings to me to help fund my business.
4) i trust them to do a good job.. i do my job well, and would expect the same from everyone else.
5) it's like 250-300 bux, seriously what are you saving by doing it yourself? maybe 160 bux?
I take pride in my bike, and know if i ever decide to sell it, it will look better with a stack of dealer reciepts showing all maintanence has been done in regular intervals.
I agree with these two guys. Plus, my dealership has helped me in ways, they didn't need to.

My dealer has tire specials all the time....usually free mounting with tire purchase.

As they should since you got the tires from them, the dude I called was trying to charge me $250 just to put tires on rims that I had taken off the bike already!

I have no problem with folks paying a dealer to work on their bike. Let's face it, wrenching isn't for everyone. There's a lot to be said for doing what you do and letting others do what they do.

Having said that, the few times I've let a dealer work on my vehicles, they screwed things up more than fixed them.

In a previous life, I was an aircraft mechanic and have worked on my vehicles my whole life. If it's something within my limits, I do it. Like others have said, it's really more that I want to know the work was done right. And saving a few bucks is frosting on the cake.

Nothing worse than relying on a dealer parts guy's advise just to learn he has no clue what the hell he's talking about. People in a position to know, often times don't.
