I've searched for a thread on this subject, but no luck. I really like the later model fuel tank console on the Dyna models (2004-up) and don't like the one on my 2000 FXDX.
I was wondering if anyone has ever fitted a 2004+ console onto a pre-2004 FXD, and what was involved?
I have the parts manual for my bike, so if there is no one with a definitive answer, I suppose I will find a parts manual for a 2004+ model and start comparing exploded views and part numbers!
You could buy the 04 tank and install it, easier to find a carb tank, if not you will have to remove FI stuff and get a petcock adapter to make it work,
what I did was buy a Wideglide tank used then modified the dash mounting bracket to fit a streetbob dash.this way I got rid of the bar mounted speedo.
Did it on my '01 T Sport years ago, used a swap meet 04 tank and bought the rest, easy 'cept the newer tank required a tapped hole and spacer for the back mount
Im planning on this same thing down the road as I lile the look of the aircraft style gas cap. From my research a newer style tank is and easy bolt on. Pingle makes a valve to retro fit the FI tanks to carbs.
I actually swapped to an FXDL tank and put my gauges on the console, moved the indicator lights to the headlight visor. This is a really old pic before different bars, fairing, etc.
I really like the speedo and tach on the handlebars of my FXDX; I don't want them down on the fuel tank. I *really* like the later model FXD fuel tank console a lot.
