I am ready to get my NEXT Harley, and am vascillating between an FXDX and a Night Train. I will list my riding preferences/option desires, and let you, the experts, whip me into a decision.
I LOVE blacked out everything! I need mini-apes for the arm position, if my arms aren't raised, my hands fall asleep. I want a 6-speed tranny. I love to work on bikes. I'm not going to throw a bike down hard into the corners very often. I live in Florida, and we have no hills or corners to speak of relaly....I will ride solo 90% of the time, 2 up 10%. I like a snappy engine, but have a back issue, so need comfort. I will make most rides of 90 miles or less, but occasionally a 300 mile trip. I want to do upgrades myself. I just don't know if the softail suspension limits me on the Night Train from being able to work on it, or in cornering.
Is there a Night Train or FXDX year that has the 6-speed? Fuel Injected are nice, but I can't work on those much....
No FXDX will have the 6-speed. The 2007-09 Night Train will have the 96 engine, 6 speed, and be fuel injected. From what you described above, I think the Night Train would be right for you.
i would not go with a nighttrain but thats me and im soft tailed out , dont think apes look good on fxdx either . if you go with dyna call ed at sick saddles and tell him you have back problems and get him to build you a seat .

I had a softail and now my dyna. I think the dyna is a better ride. When i ran over a big bump sometimes the softail would bottom out. The dyna just goes right over it. Check out the newer wide glides.
If you're not worried about leaning into turns and want apes, skip on the FXDX. For a 6 speed and blacked out with mini apes, get a used streetbob. Sounds exactly what you are looking for.
